How to Get More Writing Done

When it comes to earning money from writing, it’s a numbers game, because the more writing you do, the more money you can earn.

But sometimes, in your busy life, it’s hard to find the time to write at all, let alone write more.

So how do you do it?

Well firstly you have to aim to be as productive as possible with any time you have because a wealthy writer is a busy writer.

Successful writers are those who write ALL the time. They make time for writing rather than leaving it as something to do in their spare time.

So if you want to be successful, plan your writing as part of your day. Because as the great success mentor, William Jolly, says, “If you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail.” So make sure that having time to write is part of your day.

Successful writers not only write as often as they can, they re constantly coming up with new ideas of what to write about. This is because a successful writer isn’t someone who writes, but rather, they ARE a writer 24/7.

So keep a notebook and pen handy all the time and write down your ideas as soon as they appear.

Use your “busy” time, such as washing dishes, cleaning the car or mowing the lawn, as thinking time to plan your next writing project.

And whatever you do, don’t wait for inspiration or perfection before you start writing. Just sit down and write and let the words flow across the page. Tell yourself that your first draft will be bad and allow it to be so. Don’t stop writing. Remember that you don’t have to be great, you just have to get going.

Once you’ve finished writing you can go through it again and make it better. But you can’t improve on your first draft if you haven’t written it. So just start writing and don’t stop.

And if you want to earn more money, you need to send out more work because this is a numbers game after all. So write more query letters and write more proposals. And recycle your old work to save time and earn more.

And if you find that you don’t have enough time to write, then make time by eliminating unnecessary or unproductive activities from your “to do” list.

No doubt you’ve already heard it said that the first and biggest time waster in your life is the television. But what you may not realize is that it really is true.

Not only can you waste precious hours every day watching TV, but it’s also stifling your creativity by filling your head with the wrong things.

So if you really must watch TV, try and reduce the amount of time you sit and stare at it. And instead, use your new-found hours to write more and become the successful and wealthy writer that you were always meant to be.
